Storytelling and DVDs

Ron Jones B&W 4

For the past 10 years Ron has concentrated on assembling and distributing a new kind of book. He has created six one hour “storytelling videos.” These storytelling videos blend his spoken word (recorded on stage or in a studio) with music and supportive imagery. The images are from home movies, still photography, animation, original art and location video. The stories range in length from 3 minutes to 60 minutes. Some incorporate slam or lyric poetry. Others use song or traditional storytelling. The stories are about everything from skinny-dipping to the Holocaust. They touch upon racism, loneliness, and fears about the atomic bomb – the wonderful surprises in life that come from nature, family, and the workplace.

Jitterbuggin’

Jitterbuggin’ traces the dramatic story of one San Francisco family from the time of swing in the 1940’s to today’s hip-hop. It’s a familiar story of children, corner grocery stores and rides in the country. It’s a love story about all of us. The everyday events at the dining room table, Play land, The Fox Movie Theater and Blums, it’s about the unexpected. Freeways to the Atomic Bomb, the Summer of Love, punks, ACT UP, Costco, www.com. Perhaps in this one family we see the currents that affect all our lives. To understand the things that gives meaning to a life of jitterbugging.
